Norberry Dental Centre – Dental Extractions
Extraction, or removing a tooth may be required in certain situations. Examples of situations requiring extraction include: a tooth is decayed or fractured too extensively to be repaired; a crack exists into the root of the tooth; severe gum disease is present; it is needed in coordination with orthodontic treatment; there is a lack of space for erupting wisdom teeth, or for financial reasons.
Your dentist may perform oral surgery or refer you to an oral surgeon, called an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. An oral surgeon is a dentist who has completed a university post-graduate specialty program in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Sometimes after minor oral surgery you may have pain, bleeding and swelling. Proper care after oral surgery will help your mouth heal quickly and cleanly.
